#249, "3/4 Day Seahawk LXV"

Well, after the 1 day yesterday, i slept in my own bed, and jumped back on the boat with my friend Daniel and his dad for some 3/4 day action today. First spot, I dominated the 4 inch rockfish. Man, my forearms were killing me (riiiiight). I also ruled an 8 inch calico bass. After that spot, we ran down the line. We stopped on a couple spots looking for cuda. Right off the bat a nice "barracud" was caught on a little blue and white jig i believe. Soon after, the same guy had a thresher shark just about pull his rod in the water. Chased it around the boat and ended up in the bow where it showed itself twice before slashing it's tail and breaking him off. From what i understand it was a good 4, 5 ft. shark. We got into a pretty steady bite of cuda on this spot. I hooked a really nice fish that didn't feel like cuda. It was either a hella log cuda, or a white seabass. I turned it's head for oh, a second, and it shot straight to carpenteria. That thing was kicking my @$$, pulling drag and bending the rod almost to the handle. After about a minute, i broke the f uckin thing off. That just about ruined my morning. Well, being pissed off, I proceeded to farm a bunch of fish on the fly line. However, I did manage to tag a seagull in the air with a swimbait, so that was cool. A little while later, at the same spot I believe, the cuda came back around. This time I hooked one and got the thing to the boat. It was nothing compared to that one i broke off earlier, and this was a decent fish of about 30, 32 inches. Well, that spot eventually shut down, so we ran back up to the one mile. I think a couple cuda were caught but it was mostley calico bass on the fly line and plastic. I (loving to fly line) got like 3 or 4 legal calico bass fly lining (all released)with one decent one of about 2 1/2 pounds maybe. After the first couple it kind of slowed for a while, so Daniel and I decided to bust out the 10 lb. bass rods. I got one or two on that and Daniel got 3 or 4. It was really fun with the light rods. We eventually ran out of live bait, so we switched to squid/plastics. I think I had one on squid and a little sculpin on plastic. Daniel's dad got one barracuda, and Daniel pretty much annhialated the calico bass. It was a pretty good day, and I'd say rob's correct in saying we're gonna have a regular year this summer. Blue/white seemed to be the color for barracud and olive/brown was the color for calico bass. Ok, I think I spent more time on the water than at my house this weekend, let's see, yep. I spent 31 hours on the water and 16 hours at my house since I got home from school on friday. I had to make up for last weekend, when I couldn't fish at all. Ok, I'm headin to Lake Los Carneros.
