Yesterday on Virg's I caught my very first halibut. I have never fished for them before and have read how fun they are to fight and eat. While we were drifting about less then a mile from Morro Rock, I hooked up with the first halibut on the boat. Through out the day, about 10 or so others caught them too. Mine measured 28.75 inches and about 8 pounds. Not a bad first halibut either!! My friend who was with me also caught one about 32 inches 30 minutes later. I am hooked for life on flatties now!!! Only one complaint about the trip. The temporary captain did not take us to any good rocks until the end of the day, when it was very windy. Instead we motored around the same drift literally 20 times. Oh well, It was fun. I would post the picture but our digital camera makes the files more than 50kb. Sorry to brag, but i had to tell some more people!

Aquaman,

Brag all you want. Congrats on your first flattie.

Pete

You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.

Congatulations on your first Halibut. We are leaving for San Diego on Sunday 7/2/2000 and will be there a week. We have always headed south for the the Albies when down there, but this time I plan on doing some fishing along the CA coast and hope to get into some Halibut also.

Would you be so kind and share with us what you used. Bait, size hook, sinker, line strength & techniques used to catch the Halibut. I've eaten Halibut for many years and its one of my favorite grilled fish to eat. Now I would like to catch my own instead of buying it in the store.

Thanks,
Ralph In Las Vegas
