#425, "Halibut trips out of Virg's?"

Has anybody out there ever took one of those Halibut specials out of Virg's? How is it? How deep of water and how far outside the bay do you go? I grew up in San Diego so I fish haibut all Summer of La Jolla, Oceanside, and always pull a million shorts out of Mission Bay. I havent lived on the central coast long and I am still figuring the fishing, so I am trying to figure out if a trip would be worth my money.
ThanX,
Garrett Ford

I don't know anything about the halibut trips out of Virg's but where do you live? Got yerself a float tube or kayak? If not, you might wanna plan on getting yourself one sometime. There are some excellent halibut water around here (santa barbara), many of which are only really fishable from a kayak or float tube. Not to mention white seabass and calico bass spots. Be sure to read Rob's halibut article on this site. It seems to be very popular.

Pete from Wilderness Outfitters gave me the low down on the halibut bite just tonight so here it is.
There are a lot of good fish right now down around the Santa Maria River / Oso Flaco area. This is 17 miles down from Avila so it's a ride in a private boat and I don't know if the Port San Luis party boats are going down there or what. The bite is supposedly pretty good all over right now but if I was going I would go out of Port San Luis not Morro Bay.
