#5518, "1 hour of frustration"

Had a lunch meeting Monday in Torrance, so took the rod (Loomis hsr930 and calcutta 250 w/10lb perfexion), and got down to the beach by Redondo pier just as the tide bottomed out. I had one hour to fish. No fish caught, so those of you who bore easily can move on now. Started with a 3" rainbow trout big hammer with spinner blade attached. Lots of kelp, so switched to various 1 1/2 to 3" grubs carolina rigged. Had to use at least 1/2 oz for casting distance - next time I'm bringing spinning gear. Not a single strike, but I spent the last 20 minutes trying to entice a very large corbina about nine feet away in 6 inches of water. He just kept nibbling around the loose kelp patty. Not scared, never even looked at my fake plastic, large and small, bait scented offerings. Wished I had my fly rod, a bonefish fly and a 1lb tippet. It had to have been at least 4 pounds and was just as frustrating as the one and only bonefishing trip I've taken. Oh well, nice to get the line wet, something I do less and less nowadays.

Don't you just hate when the fish teeze you like that! Well, that's just fishing. By the way, I just picked up some Perfexion for my spinning reels. The Maxima rep told me that Perfexion was supposedly designed especially for spinning gear. Do you have an opinion on how the line performs on casting gear?

Surfan, this was the first time I tried it on a casting reel. It worked fine. Thin diameter (10# looks like 6# to my eye), seems pretty tough and abrasion resistant without being too stiff/hard. I think ultragreen is more pliable.
