#577, "Too far South?"

Hi folks. I just got my first float tube, I needed to escape the crowds. It's awesome. I live in Orange county, and work on a cattle boat out of Dana Point and obviously fish around here. If any one wants reports from this area I'd be glad to post. I've been tubing Newport Harbor south of the Pavillion. I'll probably stick to the area until I feel ready for the boilers in Laguna(the real reason for the tube). I've fished the last three days in a row since my purchase and done O.K. I've averaged 4 bay bass ( all but one in the 1-2lb range), 3 sandies, and 1 short butt for the 3 days. It seems to be either dead or lots of action no middle ground. I know the back bay if considerably better, but it costs money to launch ($5 or $6 I think). Any ideas on free launch areas back there? If anyone's headed down this way and wants to fish let me know. Amish Ed

Ed,
By all means post your reports. I for one love to hear reports from other areas, you never know when you'll be float tubing in newport... It's good to have an idea of what's up with other spots. Posting reports is also good to go back on and look at in the archives to see when the halibut picked up last year etc. You can also meet lots of people in your area. There's a lot of people that just read and don't post.
