My friend Jim and I decided to take the afternoon half day out of Newport Landing yesterday. We headed down the coast a little bit to fish some spots for the bass. Everywhere we went it was wide open mackeral. Most of the time it was hard to get a plastic thru to try and find a bass. The bass fishing was slow but still fun. Together me and Jim ended up with 8 legals and about 4 shorts. He spent the day flylining chovies andI thru the 4 inch BH in the clear with red flake. Both were equally productive. Nothing big for us but there was one 5 pound sandy and about a 4 pound halibut caught. Here is an average sandy caught.

We were fishing in about 30-40 ft of water. At time you could see the bass chasing chovies in the chumline but almost all the bass i caught came near the bottom but my friend flylined all day and did about the same as i did.
