#8524, "Wave Prediction"

Can anyone give a fairly confident prediction about what the waves will be like on Monday (12/23)? I don't have the strongest sealegs, but if it's not too bad I'd hoped to catch the Victory out of Long Beach to go for bass at Catalina Island.

For daily reports, however I think they charge for long range forecasts. Weather.com is good for weather forecasts too.

Try the wet sand network website. wetsand.com They offer free forecasts and auto emails about upcoming surf. Better yet learn to read the offshore bouys. They tell the real tale.

Monday the 23rd is when our next NW swell is due. This is so far looking to be a moderate NW'er. Models indicate this system will ride high to the North, keeping most of the energy away from our region. This tends to result in a lower weather and wind chance as well. Size estimates today, based on long-range model runs looks like chest high + in SoCal.

That last swell was great down here in OC! Looks like the wind may mess this one up more. I bet the surf was great up there in SB area too...I'm sure rincon, ventura overhead, and sandspit must have been good!

" Saturday,Dec 21: 5-8 ft. - head high to 3 ft. overhead occasionally 12 ft. and poor-fair conditions.

Sunday,Dec 22: 4-6 ft. - shoulder high to 1 ft. overhead occasionally 8 ft. and poor-fair conditions.

Monday,Dec 23: 3-4 ft. - waist to shoulder high occasionally 5 ft. and fair conditions

Sunday should see cleaner conditions with fading WNW surf. Expect mostly chest to head high waves, while best breaks are still a couple of feet overhead on the sets. New long period NW swell (295+305+) could start to show as early as sundown but looks better for Monday/Tuesday."
