Fished w/ Steve from 6:30-9:30. Cold wind and cold water kept it short (I need new booties ASAP). Bite was very weird. They were lipping everything, no matter what you'd do, when you set the hook you'd feel it slide out of there mouth. This included a few strikes which almost took my rod. Smaller baits, on the moving on the bottom seemed key. Swimbaits for Steve, smoke/sparkle Storm tubes for me.

The night was not w/out excitement from boat traffic either. Steve got buzzed by somebody with a spotlight. And before he launched I was stopped by the HP because of my red flashing LEDs. They wanted to know if I was in trouble. I explained they are to keep me visible, they though that was "a good idea", and wished me a good night. Then the DFG stopped me 15 min. later. Unfortunately, my license was at home. It was in my drybag yesterday morning, but I took it out to go perching with my dad. Dang, Dang, Dang. They let me off with a warning, but I have to mail in a photocopy of my license w/in 10 days. The moral of the story is clear, so I won't bother telling it.

Steve finished w/ 5 to about 3#. I had 1 short, 2 legals, to 5#. The 5 was mad. It took a buttoned drag a few times, and generally was just plain grumpy, including slashing my thumb on the release. I also had a 4" rattlesnake (sculpin) which I assumed (before I saw it) was another sandie. As it came up I flipped it toward myself, instantly seeing the color though, I got lucky and was able to send past my legs and back into the water on the opposite side.
