Launched from the USCG beach around 5am to a light breeze and off and on rain. Weather channel said rain after noon, they were wrong. Bite was on as soon as I got a line out. By 6am I had 7 sandies, 4 of which were legal. Biggest was about 2.5. Also dumped 3 more. Then the sky started brightening and the bite went really flat. Went from basically wide open, to nothing biting. Then around 7:30 the wind really kicked up. 8am the rain started again, and it basically poured off and on the rest of the morning. Picked off two more shorts. Then the wind got really bad and the rain was still going heavy. By 9am I was done.
Hot bait was the Tight Line 9" grub and their 3" grub. Brown and orange was the best color. I fished the big grubs on a sledhead with a 4/0 hook. The little grubs I dropshot. I also lost one on a crank.

Hey JP, good to hear from you. I was in the yak, haven't had the tube out since I got the yak. We should definitely hit Newport together. Maybe in 2 weeks we can hit it. Probably better to do it at night. Too cold for the spotties still, but the sandies seem to be in.
Saw your Wall post. Sounded like a bumpy but fun night.
