Big hammer seems to be the plastic of choice out there, but what about AAs? Are these plastics any good?

The best on is the one that catches YOU fish. Experiment and find what you like. Then you'll know what you need to buy. I'm not much of a swimbait tosser, but I like BH, Basstrix, and of course Tight Line Lures.

BH are great. I like the AA swimbaits but the plastic is a little bit softer. AA just doesn't last as long as BH.
I do like the AA 3" curly tail in the bay and the surf. Don't take my word for it. Get a few of each and try it out.

i find the AA on the soft side, work great on the small sizes because due to the soft nature swim better, though on the downside they dont seem to last as long. one or two fish and they are gone. BH are way stronger bit on the small side seem stiffer, so you need to crank em faster to impart more action, on the bigger sizes they work great. since they are a bit harder rubber they last a lot longer. theres also mc baits, i rate this baits in between the BH and AA's in hardness, great colors good action....there's also fishtraps, kalins, fishtrix, storm, megabait.....

buy a couple and try them out, only you know what you'll like.

personally i carry a couple of each and use them as necesary.

BH they swim much better than AA and a little better than fishtraps. I use all of them. I like fishtraps for tuna, white seabass and yellowtail. I like BH for sand bass and calicos. I like AA for bay bass and halibuts. Good fishing and good luck.

For salt water basses:

I like BH's Black Smith Perch, Kalin's Rainbow Trout and today I found out Power Bait's 5" Anchovy is deadly with strong built in scent and durability

Hey Kickenbass,
I have had the opportunity to use both the Big hammer and AA’s brand baits. And I have found the 3” (clear w/red fleck and chartreuse and green) curly tail grubs effective in catching fish in the bays. Sadly I have not had much success fishing swim baits in my local bay (Newport) and thus usually fish grub style baits there. I often use the BH 3” swim baits while surf fishing and probability use an average of 10-15 baits per week. Although I have been recently targeting halibut, I have indecently caught many other species while using these baits. In the last month I have caught several species using the BH 3” swim baits (Halibut, corbina, barred perch, rubber lip perch, sand bass, calico bass, yellow fin crocker ) while fishing the surf. While I usually make BH my bait of choice, I do have a concern with their multicolored BH 3” baits; I have found them on occasion to make a longitudinal separation at the front edge of the bait where the two colors meet. Has any one experienced this problem and is it possible to repair broken swim bait? While both brands will catch fish you need to find the baits that will work for the targeted species in your local habitat.
:-)

I have heard of ethyl cyanoacrylate glue (e.g., Krazy Glue) mending swimbaits, but I think that the success of the adhesion may depend on the kind of plastic that a particular manufacturer uses in the swimbait. I believe also that some anglers use this glue to keep the front of the swimbait attached to the rear of the leadhead. Also, I think that I would use plenty of scent if I used glue on a swimbait because I do not know if the glue is offensive to fish and, if so, does the glue's odor/taste dissipate quickly in the water.

Bob

I had a ripped up 7" Osprey. When I was looking to fix it I ran across this product and have used it succesfully on my plastics.
