#2108, "I got a good one yesterday"

I got a chance to try out the trophy bluefin fishing out of Moorehead, NC yesterday- with only one day to fish everything went right (for once!), weather was great, cold (30's) but flat, and I got a shot to fish a great fishery. I really wanted to get a tuna over 200 pounds, and when all was said and done I ended up with a 400+ pound bluefin, I am stoked. 85" fork length, 60" girth, biggest fish I have ever tangled with. Fought it for an hour and a half on a Tiagra 130 with 130 pound mono, what an ass kicking. Thanks to an excellent crew we got the fish. Taped out to 405 pounds.

Thanks Chris- that was strickly a chair deal, the 130 class tackle is too much for stand-up. I guess there are some guys that try and tackle them on stand up gear with 50w's and stuff, can't imagine that train wreck! From the reaction of the guys I was fishing with, the hook-up to landing ratio is very low for the guys with the light stuff when the bigger units decide to chew. Seeing how this fish had no problem with loooong runs against 45 pounds of drag on the heavy stuff, I wouldn't want to be the guy who brings a knife to a gun fight.
