Hey ED,

Good to hear of some more young guy's out there fishing! I would suggest you try some of the smaller castaic's I have personally cought many fish on the shad's small and big! I have been bass fishing since I was very young too and know it is hard to keep your paitence waiting for one big fish to hit one of the monster swimbaits, the small castaics are real cool because they will catch pretty much anything big or small.

Check these out

Here is a link to my pic's there is one pic of a monster I cought when I was only about 12 hopefully it can give you some motivation to go out there and catch a monster! Be sure to bring a camera!! And throw them back!

Edward: "3 ounces" is way too much weight for most 'normal' rods. Until you can get a "swimbait" rod, I'd stick to 1.5 ounce baits or less. The Castaics in that link should be OK weight-wise.

Good luck!

Edward, I have had good succcess on big bass and stripers with Canyon Plastics 6" Ultimate Gitzit and 7" Tora Tubes. They have large profiles, but can be used with relatively light jigheads. And for a real trophy, you might want to try California Customs 12" El Salto worms (wow!). But, if your serious about big fish you just have to upgrade to BIG, BIG rods, BIG line, and BIG lures. And when you catch the Big ones, practice CPR. Catch, photo, release. Good luck and good hunting.
