no actual experience with any of them. my buddy swears by the Luna. considered buying one myself just off of his recommendation. heard drastically contradicting reports on the BBS. Curado seems to be pretty solid.

that didn't help much huh ;)

my concern is I won't get near the distance with any of them compared to the Calcutta 400 since the spools are all narrower.

Hey Deep,

I haven't run the Luna 253 but I have been very pleased with the quality and performance of my Luna 300's. I think you may be correct in assuming you will sacrifice some casting distance.

The curado is a great reel if you like a smaller bass style reel and is much better than the bbs. But if you like round reels, the daiwa luna series is the best reel in the $200 range. Tackle tour just did a write up on it, comparing it directly to the calcutta te, with the te just barely edging it out. But at a $100 more, you can buy the luna and a couple nice swimbaits:-)

Another great thing about the Lunas is that they come with a left handed model...

I've used the 253 and the 300 luna.. love the smoothness
but they just don't have the gearing i like.

curado 300 for the big 9" spooks works fine.

Calcuttas for everything else

I used to be a daiwa fanboy, but I have been corrupted by the TE
