#18592, "Spring Lake Tournament - might be cancelled do to flood..."

I just spoke with Ranger Bill Trunick at Spring Lake and he said the park/lake is currently closed at this time do to flooding. He said with the weather only getting worse starting tomorrow, he anticipates keeping the park closed for safety reason. He is aware how important this first tournament of the year is to us, but it's not up to us, it's up to him. My question: If we can't fish Spring Lake, what other option do we have?? Let me know your thoughts

William - SCBBBC

The option would be to rescedual for the following weekend at Spring Lake. Same check-in time and same day, only one week later.

If we hurry, whoever holds the DFG permit can maybe get in touch with region 3 and see about swapping to another lake. I'm pretty sure every lake around is going to be up and muddied, but I would suggest changing to Blue Lakes, because they are the least likely to get blown up really bad due to this weather. Spring, Sonoma, Clear, Highland Springs will all be blown to hell, and they won't settle very quickly. Last year when we had that big storm that dumped like 18 inches up here, Blue Lakes stayed fishable while everything else was blown out.

One thing though, if we make any changes, we need to do it pronto, and not wait and see what happens at Spring Lake, or we may not be able to do anything at all. Mr Pres gets a tough decision first tourney out! You go boy!

The number to DFG is 707-944-5500, and they should be able to authorize a pen and ink change to the permit if we get ahold of them fast enough.

Gimme a call at home at 707 987-0963 any time today, and I can help you out with the DFG end of it.

Just pray for not much rain for the next couple of days to get this lake down a little. Mike (tahoe man), drop me an e-mail with your number so I can give you call if we do have a schedule change.

All, it sounds like this might end up being a very last minute decision so be prepared to act on your toes!

Mike A, I imagine even Sonoma might have toughened up as I know how furious that little creek can be when the rain is coming down!

William is checking in with the ranger and is also checking out the lake to see where we are going to stand. No more rain!!!

Todd

please!!!! don't change it to next week. I have to make special arrangments 3-4 weeks in advance just to get the tournment days off. Unless I'm the only one with this problem, and I would have no say in the matter. I would rather go to another lake, Berryessa?:-)

This is my first tournament, and my first meeting was this month. Are you going to be calling all of the members regarding this information? Do we find out about last minute plans through the forum or does somebody tell us?

Go big or go home.

No way dude, we have to have it this coming weekend. I'm getting married this year and the little lady has something planned for next week. I'm not going to miss the first tourny of the year. If I have to I will trek my pontoon up a mountain to fish. Of course with a little help from Todd. Anyways keep us posted, because I don't want to miss it.

San Pablo wont happen due to kickboat reg's. Both those lakes might be a bit far for SCBBBC guys. Spring lake is in there back yard. I bet Spring reopen's the day before the tournie for you guys.

Arent these lake changes fun :)

You know your all welcome to join BNT at Naci, a great way to start off the new season with both clubs on the same lake.

Nacimiento (Naci) is located just east of Paso Roble's. We allways try and go South early in the year it we can usually avoid the storms and cold weather. Its mainly a spoted bass lake with plenty of fish brought to the scales. its allways a fun time.

I go to school in Santa Cruz during the week and I usually go home and fish with my buddy who's in SCBBBC with me on the weekend. I would like to try Naci out sometimes. How far is it from Santa Cruz?

For those out there, I'm in the hopes it will open up as Rich and William both have gone out there and it is going down (whew!). I know there are more than a few people who will be coming from great distances and many newbies (heard of at least five so far???) and so far, no rain today!

Just plan on fishing and knowing the lake is up, it is probably like chocolate milk (since we only had about 1 1/2 ft visibility BEFORE the rains), the fish are big and it could be a tough bite. I'm preparing like we are going to fish it so SEE YOU OUT THERE! :D

The only negative to that is the weather report is calling for rain in SAnta Rosa on SAturday and Sunday. I mean I would love to fish at Spring, but you know those edumacated metrologists don't lie!Do they??
