I'm not looking to prefish, but I plan on being there with a couple hours of light to spare on Saturday. Is there somewhere close I could get a line wet? I'm not looking to put my boat in. Just shore casting for a couple hours is cool.

You can always fish off the levee for a couple hours, its not the easiest of fishing, but it will work. If you wanted to walk the bank of a lake there is a lake, Contra Loma about 30-45mninutes from where we will be fishing at Whites. They do charge a parking and fishing fee though, sothe levee is prolly your best bet.

What's my best bet from the levee Chris? Just throwing the swimbaits for a while?
Like I said, I'll have a couple hours Saturday and I would like to fish for a couple hours Monday before I drive home. Hate to drive all that way just to fish Sunday ;-)
Are there stripers in this area? If I catch one, do I just toss it back? Never caught one, but I've heard they're pretty resilient.

You can always toss the swimbait and just pray a striper is hungry in the area. They are fun. The couple times I've fished from the levee i just either chucked a rattletrap over the weedbeds and tossed plastics into holes in the weeds. I also would walk down to the edges of the tules and throw parallel as far i could to work lures in front of the tules. The louis park area is easy to fish at and real close to whites, the problem prolly is that it would be real dirty still(maybe not though I havent been over there in awhile), its on the main channel. If your gonna chuck the swimbait for stripers I've been told you want the clear water. I've only caught them on the sassy shad type swimbaits and used them as a spoon, but I don't think thats the swimbait throwing you were thinking of :7

Highway 12 is north of Stockton, Monte Diablo is on the south edge. Just after highway 4 if I recall correctly. If you do put in there keep your gear locked up.

Hey Jake,do you have a bay/delta enhancement stamp for you'r liscense?I just thought of that and know you are coming along way and might not know about it. :o I think whites is loaded with stripers right now,you should throw a rattle trap(chrome or chrome with black or blue back) or try a silver buddy! They really do work :7 Swampy
