OK now I am bit heated after seeing these pics on the record bee in lakeport. These pics were takin yesterday in Kelsey Creek during the FLW Everstart tournie. This kickboater is exactly the type of person none of the clubs need to be envloved with. These guys fishing the FLW are fishing for some serious money and this guy could care less and just sits in the middle of them. Here is a link with pics you can enlarge. Who is this guy?

Where's that link John?

You're right, these guys are out there 'working'! Even if he was on the spot 1st, he should have offered to move over and let them earn a paycheck. The only reason I could justify sitting there, is if they were being complete jerks, instead of just asking him to give them a little room?

Actually looks like he is buzzing through those guys with his trolling motor but is not fishing (his fins are kicked up). Do we know someone with a VV and a trolling motor who's up at Clear?

This shows a complete lack of respect for these guys who are trying to earn a living at this sport. Not to mention it is just plain unethical to encroach. I'm surprised he didn't find a big swim bait with some real sharp 2/0 trebles stuck in one of his pontoons.

Let's just say I'm unhappy, nuff said. x( x( x( x( x( x( x(

The only excuse this guy could possibly have is if he were on his way back to the ramp right when the camera guy was there and the pic was takin. Granted the chances of that guy being there at the same time as he pass's through is slim, I should give him the benefit of the doubt. Either way there has always been the thing about how kickboaters dont respect the boaters and vise versa, anyone looking at these pics will think the same as I did in my orginal post. No matter how I look at it it isnt good at all.

I'm confused. How exactly does this work? A public lake-right? Everybody gets to fish there-right? I'm a newbie. I just figured I have to share the lake with everybody. I'd much rather see this than all the TRASH that gets left along the shoreline for us to pick up, but I don't hear much, or see much done about that! Last time I went out in my tube I talked to a couple of guys fishing from the shore just as I was launching, seemed like nice guys. When I came in I had to clean up their pile of trash and there wad of line they left behind :( This sort of thing happens just about every time I go out.

Yes, you should. Although it's in very bad form to encroach on someone's water, not everyone is familiar with the nuances of tournament etiquette. Heck, Pontoon Guy may have been encroached upon by inconsiderate bass boaters one too many times in the past--I'm sure that's happened to lots of you guys at some point--and feels he's just giving back.

I've done some pretty dumb things both as a newbie and not so newbie. No doubt I'll make more mistakes in the future. When I do I sure hope that someone in the know tells me about it. Maybe I'll change my behavior based on feedback, maybe I won't, but I do like to know when I'm behaving like an a--hole. This person should know that what they were _apparently_ doing isn't cool and why.

I don't like it when boats come up on me fishing a spot and think that if we want any kind of equity we as a group need to respect boaters on a spot. Like others from both clubs John has done a lot to promote float tubers and kickboaters as serious bass fishermen. Photos like this, published by local press, don't help these efforts.

Hey Gang

It does look like my old boat with the trolling moter
and the rod holders on the side. But it does look like
he is just trolling by. I his defence he may have got

I think some of us have really good idea who the guy is in his kick boat.
I can see were your going with Lake and yea it's not to good to have float tubers in this kind mix.
Would it make it any difference if he was in a boat? Probably

We are kind of walking a thin wire when it comes to guys fishing bass tournaments in a $36 thousand dollar boats.
And guys fishing a bass tournament in a $500 dollar float tube tournament.
They are both competing in a tournament.
Regardless the dollar payout.
They both put their hard dollar in on hopes of winning.

In this case I don't think there was a tube tournament going on.
Its OK to watch pros as they fish. Just hope both parties were respectful.

OK sure it would be a great world if we all can get along.
Not going to happen in less we come to a even playing field or find god.

No matter what you do or say sometimes people don't get it.

No guaranties :P

Im going out on the lim here, but what if it was just some guy who works hard all week long and almost never gets out to do what we all love to do, FISH. So here the guy gets on the water finally and BANG, another big tourney going on at a public lake. I know it sucks for the guy who chose to make a living at fishing when he comes up on a public fishing spot and there's some one there already. It would also suck if the one time a working guy finally gets out on the water and he's being pushed around by guys making a living fishing. I personally would let a tourney angler have the first spot Im on and even the second spot Im on, but after a while its all about Im sorry dude, Im trying to enjoy a day of relaxed fishing in my little round tube on this public lake. I used to feel sorry for the regular guy who would show up for a relaxing day at Alsanjo, and after hiking all the way up to the most beautiful place to fish hes surprised with 25 tubes allread totally pounding the water, what a drag. Thats just the way it is some times and all one can do is suck it up a stop sniffling. Oh yea baby. Just my 2 cent.

You raise some good points and since you SCBBC guys fish this lake a lot more than most BNT guys I'm sure you have to deal with the heavy preasure a lot more than we do. Thanks for adding to this thread.

I agree with you Rich...Without all the facts involving this picture its hard to exactly what was going on. It does look like he is moving out of "their" water. For all we know those guys in the boat were saying good things about a nice kickboat or even asking what he was tossing and if he had any Luck.

We all have to learn to share the water without flippin out on tha boater or aa boater flippin out on us. If they ask to to move on then do so....Most bodies of water are big enough to support everyone and still have a good time. Just my .02.

I went up to clear lake for a few days as a stretch
of good wether came up. I got to State Park Thurs morning.
I didn't know the Everstart tournament was goin on. I
put together my boat and launched out of the camp site
at approx 8:30AM. Instantly I saw all the boats. I mean
there was a boat every 50ft from Soda Bay to County Park.
There was no place to do any fishing, I guess one of the
pics shows the dozen or so boats in/at Kelsey creek alone.
I talked to a few of the boaters, but was very respectful
and didn't do any fishing, except for 2 spots, and I asked
any boaters that were around if it was OK first. So the
boaters were along the reed/shore line and I was motoring
down the lake shore outside them. I even got to give a
clap to a few when I saw them catch a fish (like you see
in a torunament on TV). Several of them commented on the
KB and asked several questions about it. Even when I had
to go between 2 boats to get back to my camp site, I made
sure I asked the boaters if it was OK first.

I determined that I could only fish before they came out
in the morning or after they left for the weigh in. I did
go out that night after all of them had left to a least get
some fishing that day.

The next day I packed up and went over to the other side
of the lake, as I heard there weren't many boaters over there. So
Friday morning I went to M&M. Well the cut was after Thurs
and there were maybe 2-3 boats at State Park, Kelsey Creek,
but I was half packed up at the time, so I just continued and
left. I spend 2 days at M&M with no fish. It looked like the
bite had turned off as the fish were gorged on all the shad
that were around. There were alot of them on the State Park
side, but not nearly as many on the M&M side. I even talked
to several other fisherman (not tourney people) and they also
confirmed the bite was very slow. So that was my trip.

"PLEASE DON'T THINK THE WORST OF ME BASED ON A PICTURE".

I challange anyone to ask the tourney officials or the
fisherman that saw me around if I did anything at all that
could be considered unethical or out of line in any way!!!I always try to be a considerate fisherman and thinking I'm not gets
under my skin. That's all I have to say.

Thats cool everything was all good out there. The caption under the photo on the newspaper made it appear different.

On the bite being slow I would have to differ. While I didn't do so well in the tourney, I caught fish and had my chances. On day one my pro had been on a swimbait bite and so we went for them after his flip bite didn't produce. We were getting our swimbaits hammered but they were not hanging onto them at all. I started ripping later in the day and was able to put some keepers in the boat. I got one good bite on day one and I got her all the way to within a couple of feet to the boat, right before he was gonna dip the net for her she turned and the one hook from the pointer that was in her lip popped out. He figured she was at least 8, oh well that was my one good bite of the tourney and I didn't get her in. On day 2 my pro fished a lot slower than I'm accustomed too, but I was still able to scratch a limit together, ripping. My prefish and after fish was a lot better for me than the tourney, I caught some swimbait fish and rip fish the day before the tourney for around 14-15lbs. On Saturday I was able to stick a 7-7 on a swimbait, and I watched Jimmy Walker stick a big fish, I don't know what it weighed, but it was a toad, it got stuck in some bushes, and was sweet watching him wrestle that big girl out of there. The amount of 7-10lbs fish that were caught this last week was incredible, Clearlake is just loaded with solid fish.

Larry, Sorry if I jumped to a conclusion without all the facts. In the past we kickboater/tubers have received some bad press from boaters who felt encroached upon. Sometimes justified and sometimes not. It seems this wasn't the case here. Hope you got to take part in the epic bite Clear lake had going on last week.

Thanks for the clarification. The pic really makes things look worse then it is and with all the KB vs. Bassboat BS going on this didnt help, even though you did nothing wrong. There was actually a lil dock talk going on Sunday about the pic and the only comment I made to anyone was "I am not 100% sure it was one of my guys but if it was I am sure the boaters were cool with him being there, or he would have left them alone" glad you made my responses correct.

And in response to Doug, yah your right man

I love how this works. Everyone talks as if everyone else knows all of the rules. It sort of reminds me of highschool. The new guys hanging around the "Cool Dudes" are supposed know all the unspoken rules and when they slip up even a little bit they get their butts handed to them. My original response still hasn't been answered either. Just how does this work? A bunch a guys decided they'd like to make a living at having fishing contests so they bully the rest of everyday amateurs who just go out to a lake once in a while out of a nice days fishing? I keep my distance from other fisherman regardless if it's a contest or not. If I only have one day to fish, show up to a lake filled with all these other guys fishing, am I supposed to give up my one day fishing for these guys? I don't think so! Perahaps I wouldn't think this way if one of you would have answered my post in the first place. It just seems like these guys are bullying a lot of other people out of a lot of nice fishing days if you ask me. Sure makes me want to become a bass pro.;(

I don't think these big$ pros are "bulleing" anyone off the lake.I see it like this,I would like to get a little rspect on the water(don't encroch my space)and when in a tube or kickboat it seems like you aren't taken seriously wether in a tourney or just out for a day of relaxation.Hell,it even happens when I'm in my boat! But if someone is fishing for alot of$ then I would be glad to share the water or even move on so they can fish that water. It's a thing called ethics and if you want respect you have to give respect.
John has been working very hard on this(getting tubers& kickboaters respect) and he doesn't want to see it go backwards.I just follow one simple rule.... do unto others as you would have them do unto you.:)

Good for you Larry. We should all feel a
little stupid coming to a conclusion over
a picture when we know nothing of what
took place prior or after that instant of
time. I know I do. Kudos to those who
expressed this earlier.

I am still of the opinion if an angler is
there first (before the tourney guys) then
he is right in holding his water. Sure giving
it up is a nice thing and I have done it
many times but dont expected it while I am
in a tourney. I know we have taken some heat
in the past but feel they will have to get over
it. These are public waters and that tourney
anglers will have to learn to deal with the
public. If anything the tourney guys are
guests in my opinion.

I understand the passion involved in this
topic and appreciate all the work of all the
club members in this forum. My usage of the
word "stupid" in my previous post was intended
as a term of endearment rather name calling.
Mostly directed at myself so no disrespect
was intended.
