#5135, "Oceano Lagoon"
|
I'm new to float tubing and have been giving it a try at the Oceano Lagoon. Even though I've got a boat, tubing is really cool. I'm also new to the Oceano Lagoon. So far, I've only been able to catch bass on white/chartruse spinner baits by skipping them under the trees as far back under the trees as possible. I've also caught a few under the bridge, but they were mostly dinks. The ones under the trees were much bigger (1.5 to 2.5 lbs).
Does anyone have any tips for other lures, techniques, or places to catch 'em at the lagoon?
Thanks,
Pete
PS - Bass Pro Shops is clearing out last years model of the Bottom Line fishing buddy 2250 for $169. I picked one up and I must say it's a pretty sweet sonar for tubers.

Pier street in Oceano. There's a little park there that is easy to launch from. If you go under the bridge the banks are loaded with wood and some tullies.

Hey Rob,
Yeah it's the one by the campground, just off peir street. I haven't tried flippin in there yet, but I'll have to give that a try. One guy I talked to down there said he regularly caught 5-6 lb-ers on poppers, but I've never had any luck with top waters (there or anywhere else for that matter). I've only seen a couple fish break the surface at the lagoon, so I wouldn't think top waters would be very good there.
I'll give the jig a try next time and see how it goes.

Hey Rob,
Thanks for the tips. Last week the spinner was working well, but today, they wouldn't touch it. So, I switched to the flippin stick. I'm not real experienced with jigs, so I missed the hookset on at least 3, but I did get 5 to the tube and lost two others on the 1/2 way in.
Thanks!
