#3014, "big spook fish"

Well, Clint finaly got to see me get a big fish on a spook. We went to Calero on sat. morning and I got on the water about 5am.Started getting fish in the 1-3lb range on a shad pattern Zara Spook.I had 4or 5 fish when we came to the point at the end of the steep rock bank. I thought the topwater bite had died but decided to make one last cast with the spook and am I glad I did! A fat toad just exploded on my lure and I knew it was a good fish(9lbs)! I'm sure it would have gone at least 11-12lbs b-4 the spawn. Cint snapped some pics and away she went. By this time we then got 'em on spider grubs in pumpkin and watermelon colors. I ended the day with 7-8 fish and Clint got 3-4(he never got any on topwater although he threw the crap out of them)! We were off the water at about 11am. Sure was fun seeing a big fish just slam my favorite lure(Zara Spook)! Hope everyone did good this weekend and also for those fishing the Sonoma tourny, Rip some delta lips! Peace I'm outa here Dave

Nice fish Dave! That's a big dog for a topwater fish. When you get the pics if you want some help with scanning them in for the page let me know.

Dave sure hooked up a nice one. I happened to be looking when the fish hit, what a blow up! I _think_ one of the pics got a shot at the scale too. If he had caught it pre-spawn I'll bet it would have gone 12-13 pounds!

I'm going to turn the film in this week, probably tomorrow. I will ask for CD when I get it developed. I will forward the pics to Dave and post them here.

BOO!
Da Spook strikes again. They're fun baits to fish.
I brought a couple to middle river today but didn't get the opportunity to throw it. It was too windy.

Way to go, SWAMPY! You sure did better out there than my buddy & I did on Friday! First of all, we went in his boat, so we didn't even get on the water til around 8. Then his motor was acting up again (same deal as on our Berryessa trip a coupla weeks ago -- guess that mechanic didn't fix it, after all!). Seriously cut into our fishing time!

We ended up only catching a few on C-rigged lizards. Couldn't get a bite on Texas-rigs, cranks, flukes, topwater -- nothin'!

Ran into 'GLX Pro' Paul (from NCBF). He said he was nailing 'em on BUZZBAITS around the weeds early in the morning. I think he said he caught 18 or 19 that way -- lots of 1-2 lb'ers, but with lots of fight in 'em. Guess I shoulda thought to use one!

Thought we'd have the lake a little more to ourselves, being that it was a Friday -- NOT!!! We were a-rockin' and a-rollin' all day long from the boat wakes; jet skiers menacing all day long, as well.

Way to go Swampy. It's good to see someone you know catch a BIG Dawg.

Funny I was thinking on fishing the Big"C" on Saturday as well.

We need to hook up. If your not going to fish the Middle River Tourney. I would like to see if you'll pass along your Big Dawg mojo.

I'm here in San Jose this week with my gear. Would like to fish Calero at night let me know....
