I like to support our local tackle shops, especially the ones who support our groups. For the most part I know what I am getting and could order many things online or through the catalog but try to get things from our stores in the areas we fish since they are the ones who give the most to us. I will admit I also spend more than a few dollars in catalogs (as they are cheaper most of the time) but try to avoid too much shopping there.

Outdoor Pro, Western Sport Shop, Hi's Tackle and Fisherman's Warehouse are my primary places to shop but I do venture to many others when they are close enough, ie. Tackle It in Lakeport. Thank you to Outdoor Pro, Western, Hi's and Tackle It for their donations! Make sure to pay them a visit and thank them when you have a chance!

This is something we havent really discussed. Myself I only spend maybe 150-200 bucks a year on tackle and thats probally a little high. When I do I go to the tackle shop just to shoot the bull with friends and support local business. If I needed to shop online I would shop at bigfishtools.com.

I buy from local shops, Lyles, Outdoor pro, W-mart, k-mart. I went to western, but I didn't care much for the service. I do like the 10% off card they gave us, but bad service will make me drive to the Proshop and or Lyles.
It is fun to get a package every now and then in the mail with some fishing goodies :-)

There aren't any stores with a good selection of bass stuff here in Santa Cruz so if I want something other than the generic gear they carry at Kmart I don't have much choice. The good retail stores are all over hwy 17 which makes for a fairly long drive. I'll make the drive if I am buying a rod or reel, in particular if it isn't one that I have seen or used before, but not for lures or plastics.

I suppose I buy more at the individual tackle shops these days, where I know who has what, who has the club discounts, & whatever strikes my fancy when I stop in (and as you can probably guess, I RARELY leave empty-handed!!). :D

However, I've plunked down plenty at on-line sites. Some of them are one-of-a-kind sources (like trout plugs & such), so I don't have many options there.

BPS & Cabela's used to be a prime source, but I haven't really used them lately. I guess that was when I was just getting set up with rods & reels & such. 'Course, my hands still sweat when I go through their catalogs! :-) Funny, though, that I haven't used them in so long. Hadn't really thought about it until now.

I try to avoid buying tackle as much as possible lately. I have too much already :-) But if I really need something, I have been calling down to Bass World West for most everything lately. They don't have a website (yet) but they have just about every single bass lure I can think of. I called down the other day for big crankbaits for El Salto. They had every color of Fat Free Shad I wanted and most of the Poes 400 colors. I try to buy locally at Jay Lui's for some stuff, but traffic is such a bastard in the Bay Area, I never have time to drive anywhere else. Weekends are for fishin, not for tackle ho'ing :-)

Seems to me, they used to have a larger, more up-to-date selection. Their prices, too, are pretty much a ripoff. I was pretty disappointed when I last stopped in there.

Too bad for you, Rob (and Swampy, too, I guess) -- that location would be primo for ya, otherwise!

yeah the one thing they had that was good was 2/0 gammie trebles, but they are all sold out now and they haven't gotten any more in. The prices are kinda high, but it seems like everywhere is kinda high these days.

Thats ok cause Walton's pond is pretty close as is Jay Lui's.I have avoided Tri-city for some time now!Their selection has totaly gone down hill as well as the service.I also go to Reeds alot and try to stay away from fishermans warehouse.
I know Karen hates it when I get bps or Cabela's catologs in the mail. She knows me all too well.
