Margarita was never, in my observation, a very good trout fishing lake. Most of the action I saw there was shore fisherman using powerbait, usually in the marina cove or the swimming pool cove. Lopez I don't know much about but I think it's a little better there.

Kickboating for trout I would toss out one rod with two small split shot and a 1.5" piece of nightcrawler and let that drift behind the boat. Throw a 1/4oz kastmaster or a 1/8oz thomas bouyant on the other rod. Planters aren't real smart, its usually just a matter of getting around some fish :)
