I've tried several scenerios in regards to hook diameter. Not much has change in terms of my preference for thinner wired hooks most of the time. However the wider diameter hooks can sometimes be substituted for weight. Particularly with baits I would have normaly fish weightless. A good example is when I'm fishing during the afternoon and there's a good breeze blowing often just a little extra weight provided by the diameter of the hook can provide better control than a thin wire hook. It's amazing how The smallest changes often will have the most impact on my success.
