Yes I have found that dead calm is the best time to throw wake baits for me. I have had success in lite chop as well but be sure to pause bait near cover in chop. Sometimes this gets the big fish bites. Always remember that big fish are lazy and looking for that easy target. Usually in chop the bass are looking for the stirred up bait fish and they hang by trees, docks, etc. so that pause can really make the difference near those key fish holding structures.
