Today I fished with Bernie Shultz. Bernie used to do a lot of the by-hand artwork in Bassmaster magazine. We launched in the middle of the field and made a very long run West. It was cold out and cloudy, brrr!

Bernie was just firing away all day with like 20 different baits making hundreds of casts. I actually timed how long he fished a spinnerbait before fast reeling it back to the boat and the time was between 2 to 3.5 seconds, never longer.

We were fishing down around Sherman for a few hours for nothing, then over to the Break for an hour or two for nothing as well. Bernie does a backhand skip cast with a spinning rod that is just marvelous. I felt so inferior in the spinning rod department after seeing this. All of his gear was Shimano Japan stuff with digital control Calias and protoype rods and stuff.

When it started raining we ran north up toward Hog. Nasty run in pelting rain. Took a long time. Up there Bernie had one 4lber blow up on a skinny dipper but didn't get hooked. Saw a few other boats. From there we went to 14 mile where Bernie caught one small bass cranking. That was it for the day. A tough event for Bernie, he finished 91st.

Weights were better in general today with Iaconelli and Scott Rook sacking 25lb bags. Results:
