I was down south this weekend and had the boat with me because Mike was doing some work on it. I wanted to stop at Chesbro on the way home but I couldn't get any good info on whether you could launch a boat there or not, plus it was really windy coming down the Salinas river valley, so I went to Pinto instead.
It started out overcast but the minute I got there it started clearing out. I didn't fish very seriously and did a lot of experimenting with jigs and trailers. I got the feeling that the bite wasn't exactly slamming and that the big fish were probably parked about 30 feet back in the trees.. None the less, I fished for about 4 hours and caught two fish. One 3lber flipping a brush hog and one dink on a speed trap. No love on the trouts. The water has gotten a little too muddy for the plug bite at this point I think. The 3lber must have been caught 2 or 3 times already, I felt bad for it so I didn't make it pose for any pictures. Tried some buzzbait for nothing at the end of the day.
I need a remote controlled jig that can swim back under the trees at Pinto ... that would be something. I also think in the future I will only bring my kickboat to Pinto. You just can't get the boat control to make the accurate casts you need to make there in my aluminum.
