#10029, "First Flattie From The Surf!"

Yesterday morning while fishing the incoming tide, I nailed my first Halibut while walking with sand under my feet! What a nice surprise!

I usually throw micro grubs for Perch. Recently, there have been a ton of crabs on the beach (Oceanside) but I haven't come into any visual contact with any Corbs in the wash.

I was rumaging through my old tackle box and came across something I had bought at a WalMart store a few years ago. They are 3" red flake curly tail plastic worms put out by a company called Renegade. I looked at them and said to myself...these things look alot like bloodworms. Hmmmm... I wonder if Spotfins would get after them.

So I Carolina rigged and nose hooked one and layed some shrimp scented smelly jelly on it .

Third cast I could feel the tip of my Fenwick start to load up and I gave it a swing. Heavy dead weight. Crap! I'm thinking alot of salad because there was a noticable amount inside.

Then...after about 7 or 8 cranks on my spinner... the unmistakable head shakes. Uh Oh. I immediately adjusted my drag and it was show time!

Several nice runs with many anxious moments as a few times I thought I had farmed it. I knew if I would be patient I would wear him out and sure enough he reluctantly allowed himself to be beached with the help of some gracious shore break.

Took out the tape measure that I keep in my fly vest and he measured out at 24" . He was hooked by a prayer so releasing him was no problem. I had quite an audience on the beach which always makes for fun.

Damn...I've got to learn how to post pictures with this digital camera of mine.

Tight Lines everyone!
