#634, "Laguna and San Clemente Reports"

Fished Diamond St in Laguna today. It was my first time in the open ocean. It was bumpier for sure, but there is no swell so entry and exit were fine. Worked some inside rocks for a 1/2 hr or so for nothing, and then kicked out to some boilers. Caught 2 legal calicoes, 2 shorts, and 1 legal sandy in about 20 min. Then fished a bunch of other stuff for 2 1/2 hrs for one bite. I'm going to try Treasure Island tomorrow.

Also, If you haven't heard the sand bass have been going off in San Clemente. I worked 3/4 day charters fri, sat, and sun with limits (around 30 passengers each day) on fri and sun. Could have had them on sat also, but neither talent nor working ears were on the boat. Sun we had limits by 10am, went and made macks and then were off looking for the dorado. Found em on our second stop, boated 9, and probably missed 30. Large bait and small dodo's were the main problem. The 1rst deck and skipper free gaffed 1 of them, and I had my first ever. Best fight I think I've ever had. Too bad 10 miles is out of tubing range.

Sorry for the long post,
Amish Ed
