Although I don't fly fish I do use a 9ft 6wt fly rod that I wrapped for fishing 2-4lb and I would recommend a fly rod to anyone who likes to fish the surf. I thought at first I would use it exclusivly for stream fishing trout, and surf fishing for corb/perch. It's been nearly two years and in the time that I have had it I have gotten more use out of it than ever imagined. Not to mention it's all the fish I've caught using it. I can only fish weekends and I ussually devote this time to saltwater.
Just not enough time on the water to keep me satisfied so about 4 days a week I hit a few of the local park lakes near home for an or two after work. I fish this rod on these waters on nearly every trip. I just stick with bass fishing on these waters and I can't get enough of catching them on the light noodle rod. The biggest fish to date that I've caught on this outfit is a LM bass that went 12lbs on a spring hand scale for what it's worth. Not much accuracy on those scales but I wasn't about to kill the fish for a trip to a certified scale and a picture. With any luck she's still alive and well she'll be ready to meet me again next spring. Or even next week for that matter. YOu don't have to be a fly fisherman to appreciate the benifits of fishing a fly rod.
