There are some really nice pictures posted on this board. What kind of cameras are people using and how do you keep 'em dry?

Bruin,

I have a canon s110 thats really small, & I take it everywhere
because of that.
I also bought the waterproof case for it.

man, that thing is tiny! How much was the case? And did you try one of those snap-together deals that they sell at Fry's (~$50) before shelling out for the real deal? Thanks for the reply

Nikon coolpix 775. I put it in a cloth case, and then put that in a ziplock or two.

I have a 775 also and love it. I printed my first 8 x 10 on photo paper a few weeks ago and it looks great.

At CompUSA I got some deal where I pay $80 a year and I could literally destroy the camera on purpose and they'll replace it. I specifically told them I'd be bringing it float tubing and if I dunked it in saltwater and it stopped working would they repair or replace it and they said yes.

Pete, watch out. You can only have it replaced once (fixed?). After that the they'll say they did their part. End of warrantee. I had a Canon MiniDV camcorder that took a dump, they replaced it. But, I would have had to purchase another warrantee to cover the new one. Pissed me off big time. All my ranting got me nowhere with the salesperson, or the store manager. Plus, they replace with like technology. So my $1200 camera was replaced with a $600 one. Same technology? Yes. Same quality? No.

Beware of the fine print folks.

Ed,

I know that once you replace it you have to buy the warranty again. I still figure $80 for a new camera is better than $500. I didn't go into detail about what they would replace it with. They said repair or replace so I guess I assumed they would replace it with the same model. Maybe that was a mistake. Hopefully nothing will happen to it and I won't have to deal. Thanks for the head's up.

Pete

I have the Nikon Coolpix 800. Things to look for in the camera is resolution ( like 1200 x 1600 ) and Megapixels ( like 2.1 ). On the internet you won't probably be able to tell the difference between a 2.1 megapixel camera and a 3.0 megapixel. But it is nice if the camera shoots high resolution. One of my tricks to making the pics come out nice it to take the original pic at 1200x1600 resolution and use a cropping tool to center it really nice. Say the pic is then 800x600 after cropping. Then I resize it for the internet and make it 400x300 or whatever. That way if your buddy takes a pic and you are off to the left, you can make it look like it was perfectly framed.

I have a HP Photosmart 315. I'm very happy with it, although I could get a lot better now for what I payed.

Check out the link for a cheap waterproof camera case.
