#1725, "New Forum"
Fri Nov-15-02 02:08 AM by swimbait

Welcome to the latest installment of forum software from calfishing.com

I am going to be shutting off the old forum as soon as I am convinced that the new forum software is stable.

If you bookmark the old forum directly, you'll need to follow the link from the main page, and update your bookmark.

If you don't see all the threads, please click on "User Menu" then click on "Edit my Preference" and set it to show you all threads. For some reason, existing accounts default to only showing posts from the last 30 days, so change this setting to see all the old stuff too.

Problems, concerns, etc, please post.

Rob, as you know, there's a gob of threads just plain missing. I set my prefs to show all but it seems many got dropped somewhere? I'm sure it'll all settle down.

From what I can tell everything is still here.

David,

Did you try User Menu -> Edit your Preference -> Date Limit
have it show "all available topics"

If that's not working, let me know.

For image uploading, it looks like image uploading is about the same as before as documented here.

http://www.calfishing.com/help/posting_pictures.html

One thing to note is that if you want the pic to show up in the message, you check the box that says to imbed the html link in the message. Then when you preview the message it should show the pic right in the message, and when you click post, it should show it inline in the message as well.

Hey Rob, I noticed ther is no option to subscribe to a thread and be notified via email on replies. Does this happen automatically now?

Regards,
Terry G.

If you are logged in, you should have an option below the calfishing navigation, but above the messages that says either collapse topics or expand topics. This is similar to the old forum where it had the + sign. The formatting now is somewhat different though.

I personally like to expand the topics so I can see every single post listed so that I can click right to a recent post instead of having to click on the main post and then scroll down to the end to see a new post. I think this is the best option of you're checking the forum many times during the day. If you do find a thread that has multiple new posts in it, just click on view all right next to that thread and it will show you all the messages in that thread. Neato.

There is also an option now to expand and collapse an individual thread if you are viewing the page with the topics collapsed. This is less useful to me, but could be good if you were only interested in certain topics.

Rob,

Everything look great except for the Read New Messages option. I get the following error:

Following query failed:
INSERT INTO dcsearchcache VALUES('', '3dd55be7134798a2', NOW(), '2', '46', '0', 'off', '20000406195205', '20000504131848', 'Fishing the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers Alaska', 'Scott's Guide Service', 'Larry', '1')

Just some background info on my setup:

Logged in as my username "theblankslate"
read at least 1 message in each forum after the update
Windows 2000 SP3
Internet Explorer 6 SP-1

Looks like this is a server error with the app. Is the READ NEW function working for anyone else?

It's working for me, but I am noticing several annoying bugs like this. The version of mySQL on my server doesn't like this script. I think I need to get hosting company to update it ... will have to work on that. I'm sure it's something on the server end and not on your end Vince.

Rob, I'd already done that User Change. The topic/post list is doing something like this: shows a current one, then the next is from like Feb of '02 then a Nov of '02, then one from April '01, etc.

I'm on a Mac with IE v5.0 if that helps.

Below is what's showing up but I don't think the columns stayed once I pasted it...check the dates and topics for time ref. Thanks.

Rob,

Is the new 255 character limit for signatures going to stay? Kind of a bummer if it is but I just wanted to check before I spend any time changing mine (and a few others).

Pete

Hey Pete,
Rob's out of town (lake el salto) for a few days so he'll have to answer when he gets back. I looked into the character limitation and apparently it's set at 255, and I guess it can be changed to text data type to increase the limit. I don't want to screw around with the forums too much, so I'll let rob deal with it when he gets back. Your shameless self promotions will just have to wait until then ;-)

I guess I'll have to live without the millions of dollars in profit I'm going to loose out on by not having my signature up :)

Seriously - I heard Rob was out of town - no big deal.

Thanks Brian.

Hey!

Good work dude!

You are good. This website is incredible.

Almost as incredible as that fish that's about to inhale my 12" Slammer, front and center on the homepage! Great one.

Hope you're whackin' those Mexican bass.
