I was in class today and wouldn't you know it ... class let out early and I just had to go fishin. Grabbed the float tube and headed for the Quarry ponds. Today I brought 1 blade, 1 crank, two tubes, 3 Assalt jigs, and 2 jars of pork with me. A little voice told me to try the pond called Rainbow pond so I said what the heck and put in there. Water was FREEZING cold. I would guess high forties. Fished the blade down the bank but it just wasn't feeling right. Stopped on some ok looking stuff and dragged the jig around. Thunk, ooooh that bite felt better than the ones from the main pond. I set and it was a better one. Too bad she shook off half way to the boat. That was on the jig. I was doing my two rod trick dragging a tube bait with the rod strapped across my tube. Tube rod goes off and I set up on that one. Dang another good one. Fish comes up and goes airborne and I could barely believe it. Nice largemouth in the boat probably pushing 4lbs and fat. Worked that area back and forth and had another klunker on the jig but that one tore off the hook too about 5 cranks into it. I think they were getting skin hooked on the inside of the mouth and then tearing off. Kind of frustrating but I am blaming it on the rod. I was using my damn Loomis 843 and the thing just totally rolls over on the hookset. Moved down the lake too another decent looking bank. Dragging the jig and another one crunches it and busts a little drag on 14lb. This fish was an easy 5lbs. Total chunk. It was getting late so I headed back across. Right as I was going to get out I busted another one on the brown/copper jig and it was probably 3 and a half. Quality over quantity I guess. The #1 key was to work the jig VERY VERY slowly because it was so cold. Heck of a day and only 10 minutes from my house. I can't get over that.

Since I didn't have the camera to take pics of the fish, I'll share some pics of the jig I've been using. This jig is 13 fish old now and barely a scratch on the head.

Easy Guy!

Sounds like you're gettin' them Quarry fish dialed in. That jig looks like a copy! Yeah, they copied the Proline, minus the wide gap hooks! Nah, I'm just foolin'. Looks like a solid jig.

Har, I know it's like the pro-line, it's also exactly what I was looking for. The bottom side of the head is a little wider and it has the "punk" haircut which seems to help it stand up even more. You want me to send you one or two or what :-)

Punk haircut. Shoots, I like that description. Yeah a wider head is probably better too. OK, so you have a better jig!
