This would be only 1 suggestion. Try different methods as well. Since they have begun planting trout & cooler temps have arrived try trolling a 6" swimmer (trout-imitation) around the dam for stripers. But, first off get there as early as possible, throw your swimmer around the boat dock area. Try various spots near there. Trout like hanging out by the marina & the biggie stripers love to catch them off guard. :o <*}}}}><}

I just had my club tourney up there yesterday and the small stripers were busting shad all day long. You could get them on jerkbaits & topwaters. As for the smallies, small small and few in between. The largies were somewhat better but you will really have to work for a keeper size fish. Lots of 12 1/2" rats! Good luck!

I fish Pyramid and Castaic as much as possible. Does anyone know why the Stripers at Castaic don't bust all day on the shad like they do at Pyramid??? My thought has always been that there are way more fish at pyramid and not a big enough shad population....What do you guys think????

I agree definitely much higher population of stripers at Pyramid but most are small in comparison to the stripers at Castiac. Not to say there are aren't any big ones in Pyramid or small ones in Castiac but my experience has been that Pyramid has better numbers and Castiac has better quality on average. You can be sure that Pyramid holds big stripers as well. As far as shad are concerned I really don't know which lake has more but it seems like the stripers at Castiac are feeding on small bass along the Dam. I whitnessed some of this when I was there last Friday. I fished the shore for a couple hours during the late afternoon evening. I hooked a big striper on 5" mackerel pattern swimbait (imitates a small bass). The fish rolled on it about 10' from shore, it was an awesome sight to see. I was using 15lb Ande and I'm confident the line would have held up if it didn't get fraid from contact with a local reef while fighting a black seabass the week before. The only one to blame there is myself. I've learned that lesson too many times to let something like happen but it did. I'll back this week with some fresh line.

No the term I used for rats is when you catch lots of the same size small bass, some also call them clones. I was using a Lucky Craft pointer jerkbait. The shad were busted on by both the bass and stripers. It was an awesome site! I will have to go up and take the kid this time to get her into some of that action!

Did you hooked the big Striper on the upper lake along the Dam, close to the East Ramp ? Have you been there early in the morning ? I only been there in the West Ramp area . Would you please give me some directions how to get there( If you don't mind ). I like to try some new area in that Lake . Any info is greatly appriciated .

The pyrmid stripers school diffrent than castaic ones. The big ones, you dont get them to school on shad mostly trout. the small ones 3 to 5 lbs nail shad all day cuz they are to small to nail trout. same size at castais only early or late beats me. I think pyramid has more and bigger ive caught 35lb+ at pyramid only 22lb at castaic

I was on the upper Lake. I don't think the lower lake holds stripers. There may be a few stragler stripers in there but you want to be fishing the upper lake if you plan on targeting stripers. To be honest you may want to check Pyramid. I have had far better luck on the stripers at Pyramid but anyways if you try fishing them at Castiac your odds will increase prefferably from a boat if possible but you might have a shot at one of these fish if you shore walk the Dam as I was doing. I access the Dam from what I believe was the East Ramp. If I'm not mistaken the West Ramp is the one where the Life Guard Office is located. If there's no access to the Dam then your at the wrong ramp. Good luck.
