#15760, "Has anyone ever fished San Gabriel Reservior or Morris ..."

I recently found a couple new bodies of water within driving distance of my house and know nothing about them (also check my post on main board about Google Earth). Can anyone tell me a little about the San Gabriel Reservoir and the Morris Reservoir just north of Azusa CA. Has anyone here fished it before? I am always looking for a new location to float tube, or even take the kids for some shore fishing if the pond holds a decent number of fish. Any information at all would be helpful because there is practically nothing on-line about these locations.

Thanks,
Terry G.

haven't logged on in awhile.... so sorry for the late reply

sorry to burst your bubble but it's illegal to fish Morris, if you tried, i hope you didn't get arrested. It used to be a naval weapons test site.... booom. you also can't fish the tailwater coming out of Morris....

as for San Gabriel Res... you can only shore fish. no body contact with the water.... so no tubing or boating. if you can get to the ohv side (just past the east fork road), you can fish the reservoir from there. if not there are very few access points to the reservoir.

of course, there are stories of huge bass and trout (holdovers from stocking east and west forks) that thrive there. i guess you need to find a friend at dwp who can sneak you on the res to "take water samples"...lol

oh well, tightlines....

juanito Hi there ,I used to live in Azusa. And alway's wanted to soak my line there. But was alway's afraid because of the rumor's.Of people getting busted ,bigtime fine's. I have seen picture's of would-be-record fish. The terrain is so terrible that if you got rolled up on ,You really can't run anywhere. They patrol those place's from above (helicopter) day & night. There's another reservoir upstream called ,Cogswell resrvoir I,ve also heard wonder's about that place. And downstream there's 2 rock quarry pit's right next to each other. One has some of the best smallmouth fishing this side of the mississippi.Incredible number's of smallie's up 6 pound's with average smallie about 2 pound's.That im telling you from personal experience. The other one has big black's with light green like water wich is almost crystal clear. You can walk the bank and see fish crusing the bank between 4-8 pounds. But that was year's ago I've been living up north now for about 13 year's and thing's have really changed since those good old day's. That's where my love for bass fishing bloomed. My brother's still live in Azusa and they still try to sneek in there. But nowaday's they patrol those two goldmine's from land & air next to impossible to get in. If i won the lottery ,I would buy those 2 place's without a doubt.Unfortunately there's place's you just can't get into.Sorry for carrying on but that's were ,I grew up. Thought Id shed a little light on the subject and a big head's up.:-)

Terry,
If you are looking for a float tube spot, try Puddingstone Reservoir in San Dimas. You can launch at sailboat cove and there are picnic tables and shore fishing areas for the kids. You'll be able to fly fish for trout or try for the bass chasing schools of shad.

Hey Terry ,You ever hear of Santa Fe Dam or San Dimas Canyon, Peck Road Lake, Whittier Narrows, Legg Lake.I think you get the idea right. I dont know were you live exactly, but San Gabriel Valley is loaded with Honey Hole's. All these place's mentioned above have produced big fish for me and my friend's. Best of all they are usually left alone by the Bass Guru's. In other word's no preassure. Good luck:7

Thanks for the replies. I have heard of all those locations but have only fished about half of them. I am always looking for new un-tamed waters holding the next unofficial record bass. I will try to hit up some of those spots when things warm up.

Thanks again,
Terry G.
