Hi Guys,
What type of conditions dictate when you should throw a Wake Bait?

Still learning, thanks!

I like to throw wake baits at night, outside of tules, and in semi choppy conditions. There are many times and places that I will break out the surface baits. I think you will need to experiment a little to find your ideal conditions on each body of water that you fish.

Today would be a good day :) Big storm coming. South wind. Windy off and on.

I look for chop on the water. Not a big 2 foot chop, just a 2-6" chop. Cloudy is good. Night is good also.

The other key ingredient is to fish for fish that might see or sense the lure. There's not much point in throwing a wake bait on the surface when bass are deep, or covered by muddy water, or just out of range in general. Wake baits do draw fish from a long ways, but they do have to sense it initially.

thank you guys....so a slight chop is good I dont know why but I always thought flat calm was a good time to throw those baits.
makes sense to that you say not to just go out there blindly and start throwing. I need to atleast have an idea of where the fish are.

thanks

Didn't relize on the chop that is cool to know.

I realy like to though them in the middle of summer when the weeds are about 6in to a foot form the surface.

I also like it when the fish are in the shallows 6 feet or under.

Yes I have found that dead calm is the best time to throw wake baits for me. I have had success in lite chop as well but be sure to pause bait near cover in chop. Sometimes this gets the big fish bites. Always remember that big fish are lazy and looking for that easy target. Usually in chop the bass are looking for the stirred up bait fish and they hang by trees, docks, etc. so that pause can really make the difference near those key fish holding structures. Hope this helps, Good luck and good fishing guys! :D
