#17807, "March 6, 2010 - Don Pedro - ABA"

Nico and I fished the ABA on Saturday at Pedro. Lake looks nice. It's up 16' since we were there in Dec. Water clarity up to around 16'. Water temps 53-55 deg.

We did a mix of swimbait fishing and regular fishing. Swimbait fishing was an abysmal failure once again. Don Pedro has really changed in the last 5 years. It's just not the same lake that we learned when we first started fishing there in 2005.

We had 3 bites and landed 2. I caught some kind of spot/smallie hybrid and lost another one same size (2lber). Nico caught a largemouth. At weigh in I'd reckon 80% of the bass weighed were spots, smallies or hybrids.

Someone had a 12lber and a big limit, 24lbs or so? I think 16 was second. I'm sick with the flu so we left early to drive the 2 hours home. The switch that lets water in/out of the livewell broke at the end of the day on my boat.

Dunno what to make of our fishing this year. Granted we don't practice much but cripes. We saw people catch a lot of fish near us on Sat. Here we are fishing 6lb with darterheads and drop shots and stuff and barely getting bit on what used to be great water. The thing I noticed was that people were catching fish off of all sorts of secondary, knick-nack kind of stuff. It's like the fish are so pressured on the "good" areas they all just move off to crummy looking inside points or oddball banks.

That's my story.

Regular fishing for 2 to 3lb bass is actually pretty decent on that lake if you are not named Rob or Nico. I don't know how guys are catching them, but they're catching them. The lake is essentially a spotted bass lake now.
