#17817, "Elite Series Delta - Day 1 Report"

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Dave Wolak. Dave was boat #2 this morning and we took a chilly run down the ol' Delta to clear the sinuses. Water temps are low 50's. Water is dingy, 1 to 2.5' clarity.

AM tide was low - incoming. Peaked out mid day. Dave fished with great patience for the first 3 hours without a bite. We only saw a few other boats and no one seemed to be catching anything. Dave eventually made a move to a new spot and after a bit he set up on a good fish, which I think went 5lbs 10oz.

He circled around and worked that section again and stuck another good one, around 5lbs. Happy times. I got some photos of the fight and the fish. In deference to the fact that Dave is in 2nd place I did a little background edit. He didn't ask me to, but it just seems right since he's potentially on the winning fish and there's no one really around him.

After a while we went back to the first spot of the day and with the higher tide Dave's fish were biting a little better and he put 3 nice quality bass in the boat. All in the 3lb+ range. He missed one bite.

Late in the day he hit a few random spots and had a fish come to the surface and swirl on his bait. It may have culled a little on his smallest fish but the bass didn't take his lure.

All day we just chatted and BS'd about fishing and had a lot of good laughs. Dave is a great fisherman, very polished, and very knowledgeable. He had his plan for this event and he stuck to it and at the end of the day he weighed 19-8lbs and sits in 2nd.

Fishing in general was super TOUGH. It was one of these warm-up days that you dread on the Delta where it's been very cold and windy and then it gets hot and nice instantly and the fish just hate life and don't bite.

Photos!

Blast of in Stockton, the venue is actually super nice down by the water

Was out playin in the south yesterday thinking I can avoid some traffic. Turned out there was about 5 pros fishing in the area.......Marty stone,Derick remitz,Aaron martin just to name a few. Stayed out of everyones way of course and about 1'ish- Had this machine pull up and fished maybe 30 ft from me. I Flipped 1 fish for the day and could not get anything going but getting to see KVD fish on some of my water is priceless.
