#5355, "Man caught cheating in Bass Tournament"

Danny Engleking of Brookston, Indiana, won $300 at the Tippecanoe Valley Angler's Tournament, but he was later fined $10,000 for theft after authorities learned that he had cheated.

Engleking was caught on videotape loading five bass into his livewell from an underwater cage along the shoreline of Lake Shafer.

Authorities set up the video camera, acting on a tip from a bystander who had noticed the underwater cage before the tournament began.

Its unfortunate that some people take winning so seriously that they will cheat to do it. What a loser, im glad he got caught.

It's OK to be serious when it comes to winning tournaments -- It's not OK to cheat. The only thing serious about cheating is that it's seriously stupid. Sad.

What pleasure can come from winning if you cheat to get there?

I agree Brad. I just cannot imagine what kind of satisfaction can come from cheating to win. I really want to believe that it was more about the money that the win, but $300.00. I just do not see that being worth the reputation of being a cheater. Just my .02.

I'm a member of NAFC and they send out an email every so oftain. I usually just skim through it and delete it, but this story caught my eye and then I thought the rest would interest people here and give us something to talk about

Some things stupid people do just make me sick to my stomach. He got off easy with a 10g fine. His hospital bills would have been 10 times that had I been the one to catch him....

What a P-O-S. Well, hopefully on top of the fine he'll get what's coming to him from other anglers who chance upon the a.shole.
