Skunked by the Pond, again. I didn't have any more 5" Zippers in June Bug. I bought some craws that were black w/chart claws. Got a few bites on it, but know takers. Tried a 6" black and blue Shaker worm by Zoom, and one of their lizards in June Bug. I'm getting more of my hot bait today. We'll see tonight if they bite.

The ponds are down here near Mission Viejo. They sit between MV and San Juan Capistrano. Do you live down this way?

I just went and got some more Robos and will hopefully head back tonight. I am actually using the 4", not the 5". Sorry for the misinfo guys. I picked up 2 packs (thats all they had at Anglers Marine) of the 4", 2 of the 5", and one from a company whose name I forgot. They are kinda like the Robo Zippers, but the ribs are bigger and so is the curl tail. Look fishy though.

Crankbaits are probably out though. These ponds are only like 5' deep and filled w/ lots o'weeds. It is actually a pain even now using a tex skinned C-rig. I tried a couple spinner baits before but it was frustrating. I will take Brian's advice and try an all black one again, but move it real slow. This is hard though since I hate being patient. We'll see though, if I get fish tonight I doubt I'll try anything else until I need a new challenge.

Ed,
I hear ya on the slooooow retrieve. Sometimes you gotta do it painfully slow and force yourself. Trust me, I hate it too. But, the good thing is once you catch a fish or two, rolling that thing really slow is actually exciting, cause you just know somethin's about to whack it. Man, when it gets to be spring/summer, you can start throwin buzzbaits, and I know you'll love those things.

Spinnerbaiting is the best once you get the hang of it. I find that i am very impatient with the worming technique, and would rather toss out the blades any day. One tip with the slow roll is to make sure you have a ball bearing swivel. If you dont, the bait needs to go faster in order for the blades to spin. You can find plenty of good baits for a good price is you stay away from that bill dance doo daa crap! Some of his stuff is just rediculous. I think his show should be on Comedy Central!

Till Next Time,
Joel

To fish, or not to fish, what a stupid question!!

Ed,

You know I'm here in South OC. What ponds? The San Juan village? I can't figure where between SJC and MV you're talking about. Golf course ponds on MV Country Club? The pond behind Saddleback College?

Interested in knowing in case I've overlooked one!

Matt

Yeah you got it. How are these others you mentioned? Are they legal to fish? If not, how bad is the penalty, and how hard is to get in? I know you're not supposed to fish SJ w/ out being invited, but I also know they don't care, as long as you respect the property and the fish. I guess a few years ago they had a problem w/ people bagging fish (why I didn't want to post the name) and the fishing got pretty bad. From talking to a friend that used to fish there, and stopped around that time, it's picking up again. There's also a pond off Moulton and Rockfield. But, it I was told it would be hard to get to at night. I guess it's kinda bushy and wild on the trail to it. I can only fish at night most of the time. So, you have any ideas on where I can go. I still need to get my pass to MV, but that will really only increase my daylight options.
