#8488, "jig brands and colors"

I'm going to the fred hall show in search of bass tackle. One think i don't fish alot of is jigs, but they are proven bass and big bass catchers. The only jigs i have confidence in is the little **** bear jigs that they have at BWW with the 3" power craw or a d.c. trailer. There are so many jigs out there...what brand do you guys throw. I try to stay away from strike king and well known names like that but what do you guys throw for fishing rocky points and flipping? and what color combination too? Also what trailers are good without using pork or is pork the best?

I throw Assalt jigs, they are really quality jigs, they make two types, a stand up and king cobra which is more of a flipping jig. they are really good jigs with stout hooks on um. They will have a bunch of them at the Fred Hall. I really like to flip the brown and purple, and the black and red king cobra, and as for the stand up i really like the brown and purple also, but also the black and blue. I mainly fish the king cobras with a twin tail trailer that matches the skirt. I throw pork with the stand up in cold water, and when its warmer out i'll go with a twin tail grub and again matching the skirt to the trailer. Give um a shot, they are the only jig i use anymore, and they arnt made with that stupid silicone band to hold the skirt that always seems to break right when you need it not to. Also the jigs are made with rubber rather than silicone which i thinks gives more action to it and i different look. I've caught a lot of fish on um, give them a try, i think you'll like um.

When you are at the Fred Hall show check out the Lure Logic booth in the Bass Zone. They make an awesome football head jig for fishing structure. They also have casting and flipping models. I'm kinda biased(because I helped design the colors) but their brown/watermelon, black/brown/blue, and brown/purple are the best color presentations I've ever seen in jigs. As for trailers, 90% of the time I throw a Super Pork Frog as a trailer, but I also use Yamamoto double tails in warm water. Robo has a new Kicker Craw jig trailer debuting at the show, which looks like an awesome plastic jig trailer. Any jig and trailer combination can be tryed out in the test pond during the show, take advantage of that to see what you think looks best.

Indeed i agree w/ CJ, Lure Logic jigs are the bomb. I use skinny bear jigs also but the brown/watermelon Lure Logic Jig in 3/8 ounce football head w/ a cinammon or green pumpkin Yamamoto twin tail has been unstoppable for me lately. Ive caught alot of toads this year shore fishing w/ that jig. Also, i caught some good fish on the purple magic color by lure logic at night. Try those out for sure you'll get some good fish on em. Good luck

CJ knows what he is talking about, the LURE LOGIC jigs have some of
the best Western States colors around. They have colors to exactly match any crawdad no matter what time of year it is. And the hardware is all top quality. You can't go wrong with one of these baits...

I'm an assalt jig fan myself. After reading Rob's (swimbait's) article on jig fishing... I tried out the jigs and trailers he recommended and they paid off. I've been a fan of the the jigs ever since.

I just thought I would let everyone know, that Andrew does produce some high quality jigs. They have great action and great colors as well. I know I haven't fished for Bass much at all over the past 4-5 months, but I will be soon, and i'll be tossing his jigs. A great value at the price!

You guys know that I am a big Assalt fan. They have a lot of different colors available, but I really truly only use 3 colors. Black/red and Brown/copper and a white jig for sight fishing occasionally. I guess I'm kind of old school in that regard :)

My confidence in the Assalt jig comes from the quality of the components. The hook, the skirt, the jig head shape, the paint, etc. True story ... when I got sponsored by Big Hammer I didn't know about the Assalt jigs. When I got some, I was really excited about them, and when I got enough Assalt jigs in my box, I sold every other jig I owned except a handful of football head jigs and 1oz jigs that Assalt doesn't make.

If you're looking for suggestions on trailers, check out my article on the Assalt site. I like pork, spyder grubs, and mad man craws, but the brush hog is my confidence trailer for big bass.

Had to give my 2-cents!

CJ will never steer you wrong, but what I like most is that he has a fantastic selection of Jigs @ BWW.

EXCEPT ASSALT!(Had to nail you Bro!)

BTW: When is my Assalt order arriving? Check your e-mail if you did not get my request for them. I sent my order with the new Sunrize Tackle info. Let me know, and I'll come and fetch em'!

Obviously, I like the Assalt Jigs, but I also use the Pro-line White and Green Pumpkin 5/8 oz for Bed Fishing and just plain "Bangin'".

Trailers:
Super Pork Purple....Super Pork Black....(Winter) Mad-Man Craw Tube
(Camo or Watermelon Red flake) (Spring) Yamamoto 197 Twin Tail, or Brush Hogs (Black & red) (Summer and night fishing)

Some people are not fans of the EWG hook, but I've yet to lose a fish on the Pro-line with the EWG 5/0 Gammie. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the Assalt with the Mustad Needle Point.

That Hook is SOOO Cool, when it goes to bed at night..SHEEP COUNT IT!

Peace!

"ROD"

The only colors you need are BROWN/PURPLE, BROWN, BLACK.
keep it plain jigs don't have to get fancy. As far as trailers
go I like super pork. But any crawdad plastic bait works great.
As far as jigs go 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4oz. are the sizes you need.
Try J-Lure camo jigs for open water or rock areas. They have no
weedgaurd (fish gaurds) on them like a skinny bear style jig.
they are only avalable at Erics Tackle in Ventura CA. A local
guy makes them. For flippin and pitchin jigs its hard to beat a
PROLINE JIG. They have a good hook and the good colors.and don't
forget about spider jigs. GREAT BAIT
