I really like all of my Shimano reels! Currently, I am using a Cardiff 301 for all of my big swimbaits.

What I want to know is if the Calcutta 151 or 251 is really that "BIG" of a step up? Of course I would like to get a 201TE, but, $$$$$. Would it be worth the money to buy a 151 or 251 to replace my cardiff with, or should I just wait until I can afford a TE?

Wait for the 300TE :) The Calcutta 250 size reel is kinda small unless you're using a small bait and 20lb.

Definately wait for the TE........Either a 300 or a 4oo. Actuall, I guess your a lefty, so it would have to be the 201 or 401 TE. If your throwing the 9" baits, you might as well go with the 400TE if your serious about it. Otherwise, your just selling yourself short.

The Cardiff is a great reel for the $, though!!!!!!!

The Calcutta 400S is an option if the TE is too much $$. I have a 400 TE and a 400S. I use the TE on the really big stuff. The non-disengaging levelwind seems to shorten my casting distance on the lighter stuff. That might not be as pronounced on the 300 TE though.

For baits like the osprey, I use the 400S. The lack of a levelwind helps with the casting distance and avoids the extreme angles when you hook a big one. It is a bit of a pain guiding the line on while reeling though.

This is all just my opinion though. I don't throw the big baits nearly as often as some others on this board, so don't put too much weight on what I have to say. I just really like my Calcutta 400S.

I recomend to wait for the Conquest 401 AR-B(Anti-rust BB)
You will never regret buying high-end reels.
ask for JUN of JapanTackle.com

I'd save up and get the Reel of a lifetime!....The new Calcutta TE 300 or 400 (In the Lefty version if you crank left handed)

You'll have it for 10+ years if you take even decent care of it.
It will more than ROI itself!

I'm fishing an ABU Garcia C5 Mag 6500 (The Green One!) and the only reason I didn't go with the TE is that I'm buying a new house this year, and if I did get the TE....I'M DIVORCED.....AND NOW HOMELESS!!!

Ha Ha!

Seriously, I do love my "BOO", and for the $$ it is a Damn good Reel!

Hope this helps!
