A couple of weeks ago Pierce was playing with one of my casting reels (one of his favorite toys!). He was palming it properly and reeling with his right hand. I handed him a spinning reel and without even pausing to think about it he put the casting reel down, grabbed the spinning reel, held it in his right hand and began reeling with his left. It didn't even phase him to turn it upside down and reel backwards - YEAH! - He's off to a better start than I was!!!! No barnis here :)

Last night I figured out how to use the movie feature of our digital camera and caught him on film switching from a casting reel to a spinning reel. Maybe it's because I'm his father but it's pretty cool!

It's about 1.5 Megs (a little larger than what will fit on a floppy disk so it might take a while to download if you have a slow connection.

Being a father of three myself, I can definately appreciate your sentiment. My oldest(and only boy) just turned 5, and I have him learning to pitch with a baitcaster. He pretty much mastered the spinning reel last year. Thanks for sharing this.

OH man, I gotta get a video camera. That's great how he was reeling the reels :-) Maybe in a few years we'll all be attaching video to these posts instead of pics .. hmm ... How cool would it be to get a video of a big fish on a bed, or maybe even get some footage of catching a big one.

Nice video teach them young. I still can't get my brother to switch to a baitcaster but my 10 yr old daughter won't use a spinning reel cause she thinks they aren't COOL.

that video and it reminded of me and my first rod and reel. it was a zebco spincasting reel, along with a short three foot rod. caught my first fish on that setup too!

in fact, i still have the rod laying under my bed.
