#10970, "1/2 day local paddy hopping 10/8"

Yesterday the Pops and I decided we needed to get out and do some fishing before deer season opens this weekend. Jumped on the 9-3 half day out of Newport Landing. We had a long boat ride as we went down the coast past dana point. As we got to the area they put out a couple trolling rods. Then we start looking for paddies. We were maybe 1 mile or 2 off shore. We would spot a paddie, pull in the troll rods and pull up. We would end up hooking about 6 -10 yellows on almost every paddy on the first pass. Then they would dive and we would make another pass and maybe pick up one. This was the routine for the day. Then in between paddy stops we had a double on the rapala's and the fis charged the boat for about 10 mins. The were boiling all over and you could see free swimmers everywhere. They weren' big ( 4-8 pounds) but it was definately a fun 1/2 day trip. I caught my first yellow on iron and got another on bait. It was weird they would pick up your bait, run 10 feet and drop it.

I was on the Nautilus also. Everyone was getting bit but me. I couldn't believe that a tiny 1/8 once split shop made a difference. I took it off and started getting bit. Saw you hooked that fish on the iron. I wanted to yo-yo down around 60' but didn't bring the right rig and time was running out.
