Hello everybody. Yesterday Brian 2 (a.k.a. "deuce deuce") and I launched my dinghy at Goleta beach around 5 and fished until 8. We started at the rocks where Brian 2 quickly caught a 22" halibut in shallow water. We might have stayed but some dude on shore cast a couple lines right over our heads, so we moved to the stairs.
We fished around at the stairs for awhile with little luck. The water was murky (not red tide, but dirty) and we got hooked on a lot of eel grass. The only action was when I hooked an 8 lb. guitar shark on its wing. We both thought it was a huge halibut. Brian even dumped out my beer in excitement (you ####). You could nearly taste the disillusionment when the guys on the beach saw us release him.
On a tip by Rob (thanks, btw) we moved out to some kelp beds as the sun began to set. We fished the outskirts for awhile until the boat drifted into and got stuck smack dab on top of a huge forest. As Brian singlehandedly (and therefore fruitlessly) tried to free us from kelp purgatory I, like the #### I am, kept casting. And aren't I glad I did!

Brian #7 finally popped his seabass cherry! So here's the specifics on baits, the seabass came on #47 and #38 in 5 inch and the halibut ate the 3 inch #2.

You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.

I also fished "goleta beach" and didn't even get a nibble. I didn't see a dingy anywhere either. Are you guys launching by the pier or somewheres else? I saw tons of baitfish in the water, so I guess the fish were all full and didn't want my offerings.
