I had about an hour and a half to fish so I drug a kayak down to the harbor and gave it a go. Dragging a kayak across west beach by yourself isn't really the sweetest of times lol.

There were tons of people out boating, ripping around around wave runners, etc. Kind of a zoo. The water was off color and full of loose seaweed. Tons and tons and tons of loose seaweed.

I tried in front of the breakwall, over by the pier and by the bait barge. Caught lots of seaweed, not so many fish. Just one short halibut out front on 5" Big Hammer.

The kayak thing is interesting... I like the range of the kayak but the one I'm using has no space for storing anything, no rod holders, and your ass is wet the entire time which is not all that sweet.

What I really need to do is go somewhere up north where there's a chance to catch some real fish. Haskells is first on my hit list. Just gotta figure out a better way to drag the kayak down.

hey man,
I can try to put up a post before I go somewheres, but the tough thing for me is that my trips are almost always last minute. It really depends on how work goes for that day and whether I have enough daylight to make it worthwhile to go.

Do you happen to know how far it is from the parking lot to the beach at Haskells these days? I haven't been there since the Bacara went in and they put in that new parking lot and stuff.

Rob,

It's way farther then it used to be. There is a perfectly good lot that goes basically right to the sand, but the Bacara fools have it blocked off. Now you have to park in the parking lot by the tennis courts and walk 500 yards. Burn Bacara, burn in hell!!

Hey guys...I'm a newbie to this forum. I plan on getting an inflatable kayak within the next few weeks for the sole purpose of fishing our beautiful shores. I'd love to meet up with any of you to learn a few tricks to fishing the shores and also with launching...especially since I've never even kayaked before...hahahaha. I'm hoping it's not that difficult in the small surf we get. Anyways, I thought I'd drop by and introduce myself...the name's Va btw (yep, that's all there is to it). I'll keep you guys posted on when I get the kayak in. Till then, tight lines!
