#8045, "New Orleans Report"

Well just got back from a 4 day bender/bachelor party in New Orleans on Monday. Me and some of the fellas put the hangovers aside and made an attempt to go fishing. We hooked up with Captain Nicks fishing charters and actually went out with Captain Nick. Our boat departed at 1:00pm(uhh we didnt quite get up in time for the 6:00am departure :-) Headed straight out of the Marina trying to avoid all the shrimp boats and our first spot was an old oil pump about 20 minutes out. The type of fishing is pretty much a no brainer SHRIMP SHRIMP SHRIMP. Tie on just enough weight to keep it on the bottom so the current dosent take it away wait 5 minutes and fish on. There was definitely no shortage on fish Drum, Sheephead, and hell of a lot rays. We were really in search of Reds so we decided to move to another spot. The key seemed to be finding the fast moving current. but with the hurricane that came through there it muddied up a lot of the good spots. The next spot included some tiny blue cats and also some bigger fresh water cats. But still no reds... Next spot was an old abonded hunting lodge where we docked the boat tried our luck casting from shore. Here we caught more cats, speckled trout, a small red, and one GATOR... All in all is was a great trip and cool time fishing in cajun country just wish the hurricane wouldnt have screwed up the Red bite... Tried posting the pictures myself but I think they were a little to big. Robarrific is going to try and shrink em for me.

Zacharooni out and recovering....

What party scene??? I dont remember much ;) The streets were still packed and it wasent even Mardy Gras. Lets just say I didnt come home with any beads :P.It is a cool place but 4 nights with 11 guys might be a little long. Pretty cool though we rented a big airboat for the 11 of us and went out wrestling gators in the swamps one night(sure wish the bass tracker went over land like that). Uh... I mean we watched them wrestle the gators. They were everywhere as the guide would say "Just look for dem dar red eyes boys" . Funny story, I was trying to cross that plank to the other side as you see in the photo and slipped and one whole leg went into the water. Than no lie less than 5 minutes later there was the gator in the photo swimming right along the bank where I just slipped in. Definitely a different type of fishin... The sheephead in the photo was the first one we caught and probably the smallest. Some of them were twice that size. That was the average speckeled trout in the other photo. Thanks for the photos Robarific....
