I was just wondering if anyone had been fishing in the Oxnard area? I heard there have been some nice barred perch caught in the area. Also I would appreciate it if someone could point out some fishing spots to fish for barred perch? Thanks for the help. Willam

1. Arnold Road off Pleasant Valley Road in Port Hueneme.
2. End of 5th Street to Oxnard Shores toward Edison plant.
3. McGrath Campground towards the river.
4. Hollywood Beach.
5. Ventura Road to Hueneme Beach from pier toward Edison plant.

Move on down the shore as you fish until you find them. Sand crabs/grubs for perch/corbina. Mussel for perch/yellowfin croaker/sole. Plastic swimbait for halibut. Squid for rays and shark. Fish two hours B4 high tide, through the high, and two hours after.

The certified world record barred perch came from Oxnard a couple of years ago. I believe it is just over five pounds. I don't know the Oxnard area, but the guy who got it has been fishing there for decades. He always gets a limit and he never keeps anything under three pounds. If you want to see the fish, an exact-size reproduction is hanging over the counter at Wylie's tackle shop in Malibu. If he takes a liking to you, he might even tell you where the fish was caught. Good Luck !

I just have to comment on Wylies tackle shop!

Wylie was a damn fine ornery bastard while he was with us. Every time I went by his shop and asked how the fishin' was he's say the exact same thing every single time: "The fishin's been damn good!". You had to hear him say it. He was so serious. According to him, they were biting everything all the time. It was sooooo funny. That old man gave me many a good laugh. He used to tell us how his friend catches multiple 10 pound calicos per day all the time right across the street from his shop on dead anchovies. My friend "Pablito" and I were sad to hear he passed on when he did. His passing actually got news coverage because he'd been so prominent in the malibu community for so long.

Thumbs up Wiley! You are missed.

Good ol' wyl-E, if the ocean were frozen solid and all the fish were dead you bet the report would be : Fishing's Been DAMN GOOD! If there was a toxic waste spill and fish were washing up on shore- yep still Damn good fishing! For Wyl-E the fishing was always Damn good. Although we were never sure whether Wyl-E was either a) the shortest man alive or b) a small chinese woman, we loved his sense of humour and we had to smile even as he was ripping us off with his outrageous tackle prices. Heres to Wyl-E, YOU DA (WO)MAN! and may de fishing up in heaven be DAMN GOOD FOR YA! :) We miss ya. PABLITO AND PENERANDO RIOHAGLAR PANCHO JUAREZ III.
