Which length bait Patrick? I will shorten them a little bit on the 9" bait and leave them alone on the 12". A slight change in the length of the tail can really change the action of the bait. Shorter makes for a faster kick. Longer deadens the action more. When you get it just right on the individual bait is when it starts just looking like a fish as it swims through the water. Like the barber says, you can take it off but you can't put it back on lol.

You can get it out without ripping the tail. Just use a pair of smaller needlenose and work on the heads of the nails until you get them coming and pull them out. Sometimes I'll take an old hook and pick at the nails around the edge to get them up far enough for the pliers, especially if there is clear coat over the head of the nail. It takes a little time, but you can usually get it.
