#403, "Huge limit at Margarita"

I talked to Mike Shaw tonight and he wanted me to post this one for him. He fished today from noon to around 4pm at Margarita throwing the 9" Slammer. He had 5 bites and they were some big ones. The fish at Margarita have been very tough lately and Mike has had several slow trips before today, but today they were on the prowl with the bad weather and when it was through he had a limit of almost 30lbs including a 9.1lb kicker fish and two 6 and a half pounders! I think the final weight on the limit was around 29 and a half pounds. I think that's the biggest bag I have ever heard of out of Margarita. The fish just seem to be getting bigger every year. It goes to show that when you put your time on the water, eventually you will hit the money day and really get them good. Brian, Larry and Pete had an all time best 102 legal sand and calico bass day today on the ocean so there must have been something in the air that really caused the fish to want to bite. And I spent most of the day in the car driving home... Doh! Congrats to Mike on a great day and a great 9.1lber at Margarita. I always wanted to get one that size out of there, but if I couldn't get them that big, I'm glad Mike did.

Right on Mike. That's a humongous limit for margarita for sure. Hell, that's a big limit anywhere. Congrats on the big fish.

Not sure if you have heard anything, but i was just looking through one of those photo ad or whatever it was and it says that Anglers Outpost if closing down? Whats the deal, has Mike said anything to you, or any other people? Just checkin, but it says they are selling off everything, i might need to go see what kinda prices they have on the allum. rentals, the motors are pretty new. Any clues?

Dean is closing down Angler's Outpost. He is selling everything. I think the aluminum boats with 10hp motors are going for 1500 bucks. Pretty good deal. Really a shame that he is closing, it will be a big loss for the lake.

Well I talked to Mike tonight and we had to agree that timing is everything! He fished all afternoon today in similar conditions and didn't get a bite. I think the equation for winter is:

Time on the water = Increase in odds that you will be there on the right day + use right lures and be persistent = some good fishing.
