I decided to take my bro in law out and teach him the art of bed fishing. We saw many smallish males while hunting for pigs. I wanted him to get some fish but I also wanted to get me a big one, so I gave him 5 min or we would move. he missed a few and we kept looking for mrs piggy.
after about an hour I saw a big shadow, so we backed off and dropped anchor. I tossed my little
bluegill out and started messing with the male. Now the blugill is a bit big for the 3lb and under size fish so i figured he wouldnt hit it.
Well he never got the chance. She came right up on it the first cast and my hart was pounding!
she would just watch it go by about 2 inches from her nose. Then she kinda turned quarting away from me. I threw over her shoulder and worked it toward her face. she either had to face it head on or run scared. No self respecting toad is going to run from a little bluegill! Now her tail was pointing strait back towards me and I hopped the bluegill right up to her face and she inhaled it. I swung and missed!
I then decided to pull the one hook out of the belly and let the trebble hang. Two cast later she was in the same position and I did the exact same thing. This time she inhaled it. I swung hard and it was on. my buddy netted it and it weighed 11pounds 12 ounces. I also got a 5 lber and a little male on the bluegill that got it stuck in his mouth while trying for a 5ish female. Bob ended up with
3 up to 3lbs on jigs.

Lordy, Lordy, that's a 'beautimus. Bass!:7 When I read "bluegill", I was hopeing it was the 3:16 Bluegill but I see where it's your handmade bait. Outstanding and thank you for the pics and the technique.

Matt: All I meant was I already have a 3:16, therefroe I was hoping you had caught a Toad with one. Forgive me as I am still learning what you guys do and I didn't know at the time that you are a lure-maker and were using your own bait.

The funny thing is, twice I was accused of using live bluegill. I hade to cast my lure up on shore so they could see it up close before they belived me. Even the guy at the dock asked to see it, but at least he didnt accuse me!

What Matt meant was before he missed the fish on his bluegill he had the treble-hook embedded into the baits body. After he missed the fish he took the treble-hook out of the bait and he let the treble-hook hang freely I'm guessing to increase the hook-up ratio.
