I have this feeling that Mr. Swimbait has been out on a lake some where... slaying some big fish. I remember that post last year where he and his buddies slayed some big fish during some stormy weather... Those pictures haunt me (ha-ha)

I wish I was out in the elements myself...

Anyone take advantage of the fronts that have passed through their areas? Just curious..

Wish I could say so :) But I haven't been since last week, when it was hot and calm and I managed a whopping 13 incher for fishing a good 8 hours. Remember what I said on the main page Sept 29

"Late September through October can be two of the toughest months of the entire year. Weather can fluctuate rapidly from 90 degree days to 50 degree nights. Large temperature variation from night to day has often proven to be a tough condition for me. In this transition period, storms and bad weather can actually have a very negative affect on the bass. When daytime temps go from 90 down to mid 60's, bass just don't seem to react well. This is the time of year when water temperatures will also begin to drop, and a spell of cold weather can cause them to drop rapidly. During times of change like this, my experience has been that fishing can be very hit or miss."

I did catch a nice 10.15lb fish a few weeks ago in my kickboat during stable weather on the Huddleston Deluxe. More I cannot say, but be patient, a month or two from now the real winter will come :)

I saw that picture... and I figured it was recent. Congrats!

These are typcially bad months for me as well, but October has actually been pretty good for me for a change. No big fish (I'm still learning and still concentrate on numbers), but plenty of 1-3 pounders on reaction bites at various small lakes...

That's cool man. Every year is so different so even if a time should be tuff, it's good to go try :) Trying is half the fun.

Rob, which of the okuma rods would you recommend for tossing huddlestones and 12" slammers? Will I see a great difference with the daiwa rod I am using now?

I've been using the GS-761-H model Okuma for the Huddleston and have been pleased with it. The extra heavy one would work too, but it's kind of overkill. You could throw 12" Slammer on either rod since they are both really stiff.

Both the Okuma rods are much stiffer than the Diawa Heartland, especially in the tip section. If you had the Diawa and the Okuma you'd have pretty good coverage for light stuff and heavy stuff respectively.

Swimbaits are just another fishin lure. A guy who is serious about worm fishing might have 5 worm rods. Same is true for a guy who's a swimbait guy. If you're into a technique you'll start to see all these situations that need slightly different tackle and then the rods start piling up :)

I went to a favorite lake in pre-frontal conditions and totally blanked. Then last night I went to a group of small ponds with a freind and once we found the fish we did pretty well considering that it was COLD clear and basically your textbook post-frontal shouldn't be able to buy a bite type conditions. I got 1 that pulled the scale to 3.5# on a jig which is pretty good for these ponds and I farmed another on the jig that splashed on the surface so I flipped to it and it hit about 1" into the initial drop. When I set my rod hit a tree limb and I couldn't do much to get a better set or bring in the fish other than crank on it. She made 3 jumps and out came the jig. I'd guess her at around 2.5# but then I thought the 3.5 would go 4.
I missed atleast 3 other bites and my freind got 2 1-1.5# and missed 2 or 3 other hits all on PowerCraws in the Junebug color. Not bad for 10 til 12:30. We alo saw a lot of surface activity but I couldn't get anything to eat a topwater.
Tight lines,
Wade
