Hello!

A few months ago a friend of me caught a bass (not a big one, but a "nice" portuguese bass just over 2 lbs)on a small rapala skitter pop. About 2 weeks later I caught (and released) the same bass! This time I caught it on a spinnerbait.

I've attached pictures so you can compare (look at the stripe pattern).

This is the first time it happened to me and my friend! I started to fish for bass about 4 years ago. My biggest bass was a 5 pounder and I've also caught one that was 4.5 lbs. I'm trying to catch bass over 5 lbs (There are only northern strain bass at Portugal).

Did it happened to you (to catch a bass more than one time)?

That's a good looking Northern strain and I'd say it's the same one in both pics.
Tight lines,

Those are some nice fish Marco! The pattern on the side of the bass are like fingerprints, if theres no deformation or defining fin that makes the two fish an obvious match, those dark spots are usually a dead give away.

The same thing happened to me and a friend of mine. Caught the same bass literally within a week of each other on two diffrent swimbaits. She even weighed about a lb more the second time with a nice belly from her between catch meal. :7

Marco,

Great to see you are catching and releasing all the way in Portugal :) This kind of thing happens all the time! So often that it's not even suprising any more. If you have not looked at Fish Chris' page about catch and release, it is at:

http://www.trophybassonly.com/id50.htm

You should have a look. It's a great testament to how well catch and release works. When the world record is caught, any money says that it will be a fish that was caught and released many times before.

Best of luck finding those big Northern strain bass in Portugal.

There is a pic of a Bass I caught three different times in a small pond just north of Hawkinsville, GA.

There she is again.

And that's the last pic. The reason I know I caught her three times, spaced over a 2-3 month period is that it's because I fish alone out of a small pond boat and have to put the Bass on a stringer as I set up the tripod and camera. The stringer clip leaves a hole in their lower jaw's membrane. The seond and third time I lipped her, my finger slipped right into that hole. Seemed to be in perfect health each time even though her weight stayed the same???
